Tibetan Spaniel

Growth Size

Tibetan Spaniels grow to a height of about 50cm, and a weight of 4 – 7kg.

Lifespan

12 – 15 years.

Temperament

Tibetan Spaniels are a clever and happy breed. They get along well with people, dogs, and other pets in the house.

Training Difficulty

This breed can be difficult to train, so it's important to start early. Do not allow them to be the 'pack leader', as they will develop 'Small Dog Syndrome' and be a nightmare to control.

Recommended Owners

Recommended for families. This breed is also good for homes with less space, such as apartments.

Origin

One of the oldest breeds of dog, the Tibetan Spaniel originated in Tibet. It was used to guard Buddhist monasteries, and raised the alarm if an intruder managed to get past the much larger Tibetan Mastiffs which guarded the entrances. Tibetan Spaniels started spreading to other parts of the world in the early 1800s.

Diet

About a cup of dry food a day for adults, spread across two meals.

Please note! The dietary guidelines specified above are only a guide and feeding may vary based on your pet's size, activity level, and metabolism.

Grooming

Regular grooming is required to rid Tibetan Spaniels of knots and to control their shedding.

Comments

Tibetan Spaniels can be seen depicted in early Eastern artworks, from as far back as 1100BC!
