Poodle – Miniature

Growth Size

Poodles grow to a height of 25 – 30cm, and a weight of 5 – 7kg.

Lifespan

12 – 15 years.

Temperament

Poodles are sensible, lively and playful dogs. They will keep up with as much exercise as you can give them and are also great swimmers. Poodles are sociable dogs and love being outdoors just as much as snuggling up on the couch with their owners.

Training Difficulty

Renowned as one of the most intelligent dog breeds, poodles are extremely responsive to obedience training. It is highly recommended to take them to school for stimulation, because without good training, they have a tendency to boss their owners around!

Poodles are friendly towards children and are highly regarded as family pets. Their low shedding coat also makes them idea for people with allergies to dog hair.

Origin

Often associated with France, the Poodle was actually developed in Germany. They were bred as retrievers and used to collect downed water fowl. However, the French are responsible for the miniaturisation of the Poodle.

Diet

For adult Miniature Poodles, feed about a cup of dry food a day, split between two meals.

Grooming

Although Poodles don’t shed their coat, weekly grooming is required to prevent knots from forming. If you don’t regularly maintain their coats, professional grooming is required every three months. Poodles have a low shedding coat , which makes them ideal for people who have allergies to dog hair.
