[Pet of the Month] July 2012 – Tumble

NAME: Tumble
AGE: 3 years
BREED: Long Billed Corella
Tumble the long billed corella was maimed by a dog and lost a wing while under the care of his previous owner, but through this tragic event he found a new life. Tumble was adopted recently from a wildlife park by his new owner Tim, giving the bird a second chance.
Long billed corellas are a bird native to Australia, and have excellent mimicry skills. In fact, they are regarded as the best talker of all the Australian cockatoos. They require plenty of attention, and may become destructive if they don’t get it, so this is not a pet recommended for younger children. However, they do make good companions and can form a strong bond with their owners over their whopping 50 – 60 year lifespan!
Understandable after his run in with the dog that cost him his wing, Tumble is a little shy around the other pets in Tim’s house, except for his best mate – a budgie. They sleep next to each other and have regular chittering conversations. A war of noise at times!
An irresistibly cheeky and playful bird, Tumble loves to dance and get scratches from the human occupants of the house. He keeps himself amused by playing with his bell and ‘laughing’ when it jingles. Meals consist of a premium seed mix. But occasionally he’s treated to his favourite foods – sunflower seeds and peanuts. Yum! It’s good to see that even after his accident, Tumble is still in good spirits and able to enjoy the finer things in life.
If you think your pet has what it takes to be our next Pet of the Month, just email any photos or YouTube links of your pet to michael@upmarketpets.com and tell us why they deserve to be Pet of the Month.
Don’t forget, the winner receives a $50 voucher to spend in store at Upmarket Pets! We’d love to see more birds and small animals entering Pet of the Month as well.
