[Pet of the Month] June 2010- Skinny

One look at that face and it was love. Looking into its big oogly eyes and pointed beard we wondered ‘was it an owl? a Gremlin? An Ewok?’
The lovable creature was in fact ‘Skinny’ a member of the ancient dog breed, Griffon. Commonly used as show dogs our adorable Pet of the Month was adopted from the Royal Melbourne Show – the runt of the litter, Skinny was too timid for the world of show dogs. Instead she is now the youngest of three pooches owned by Gina and Andy.

We met Gina, Andy and Skinny at a park near their home. Outside of her comfort zone, inside the house, Skinny showed us her meekest side. Cuddled up in Gina’s arms like an infant she looked around at us with concerned eyes and nuzzled back in! Having a camera in her face and being out in the cold was really too much. As she looked at us contentedly from the nook of Gina’s arms we were amused to hear that at home she is in charge of the other two dogs…and possibly her parents as well!
Griffons are an intelligent, obedient breed who are very loyal to their owners. Although she’s only pint sized Skinny makes a great guard dog. It’s hard to imagine such a dainty lady getting grizzly, but as we were filming a boisterous black poodle walked and we captured it for you, one of the funniest encounters for awhile!
In between cuddles Skinny loves to play and go for drives in the car. To be left at home alone would be the worst thing to happen for Skinny, luckily it’s very rare that it does! Skinny could not have ended up with two more loving owners and Gina and Andy couldn’t have a more perfect pet. We left feeling so grateful to have met them all, and also wishing we could have a Griffon too.
We want to thank Gina and Andy for taking time out of their day and for sharing their Pet of the Month story with us and the rest of the Upmarket Pet’s community.
Upmarket Pets are now giving away $50 voucher to the winner of Pet of the month. We would love to see more cats and birds entering for Pet of the Month as well. To enter please email us any photos or youtube links of your pet to michael@upmarketpets.com
